Restringing wasn’t a priority, but a partial action rebuild was necessary. The action got new hammer butts, hammer shanks and Abel hammers as well as new key tops, key bushings and action frame felts. The cabinet was thoroughly cleaned and the finish repaired and polished.

Action before restoration
The keys before rebushing and new key tops
Plastic keytops are thicker than ivory. Here, I am planing about 1mm off the key body to compensate for the difference
Cauls are used to install new key bushing felt.
New hammer butts (with shank) are pinned to the original flange (right).
